Internal gears

Internal gears are gears with teeth cut on the inner surface of a cylindrical ring, meshing with an external pinion inside it. They are commonly used in planetary gear systems and compact transmissions, where both gears rotate in the same direction.

Their main advantages include a compact design, high torque density, and efficient load distribution. Internal gears often provide quieter operation, reduced wear, and good efficiency due to lower sliding velocities. They also allow short center distances and simplified mechanical layouts.

Disadvantages include higher manufacturing and inspection complexity, increased cost, and more difficult assembly and maintenance. Heat dissipation can be limited, and design flexibility is generally lower than with external gears.

Despite these drawbacks, internal gears are preferred in applications requiring compact, smooth, and high-torque transmission solutions.

Inside the gear. Inside the truth

Advanced Solutions for Internal Gear Measurement

Our machines for the measurement of internal gears are engineered to deliver uncompromising accuracy, reliability, and flexibility—across sizes ranging from small to very large diameters. Designed for modern production and quality assurance environments, they combine robust mechanics with intelligent measurement technology to meet the highest industrial standards.

At the core of our systems is the double flank inspection method, providing fast, reliable evaluation of functional gear quality. This approach ensures precision in all aspects of measurement, while enabling high-speed inspection suitable for both sampling strategies and 100% in-line inspection.

Special attention is given to measurement integrity. Advanced design principles actively eliminate clamping inaccuracies, ensuring that results reflect the true geometry of the gear rather than fixture-induced errors. Measurement data can be recalculated onto pitch diameters, allowing meaningful comparison and accurate functional analysis across different gear designs.

For intuitive interpretation, results are displayed using polar charts, offering clear and immediate visualization of gear shape deviations and functional behavior. This visual clarity supports faster decision-making on both the shop floor and in the laboratory.

Our machines are easy to use and highly user-friendly, minimizing training time while maximizing productivity. They are fully Industry 4.0 ready, featuring seamless OPC-UA data exchange for integration into digital production environments, traceability systems, and higher-level analytics.

Built for versatility, these systems perform equally well in laboratory-grade metrology environments and in rugged shop-floor conditions. Each machine is tailored to your specific needs, ensuring optimal performance for your applications.

Every system is precisely assembled and enthusiastically inspected, reflecting our commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and long-term reliability. The result is a measurement solution that delivers confidence—gear after gear, shift after shift.
